Our teachers have warm personalities, are extremely friendly and dedicated to teaching you the styles that you want to learn. This ensures that YOU get to choose what your goals are and meet them in a way that works best for you.
We teach all styles of music, from the traditional method series teaching approach, to playing by ear and improvisation, through the classics, popular, blues, jazz, ragtime, contemporary – you name it!
How qualified are your guitar instructors?
With over 45 teachers, all with University training and/or professional performance experience - you can be confident that we have the right teacher to meet your needs.
What will I learn from guitar lessons at FSMPA?
Beginner guitar students can expect to work on chords, simple songs and melodies, sight reading and theory. Our instructors balance musicianship and fun by making sure that each lesson presents a new technical challenges or theory concept, and ends with something fun, such as your favorite riff or song. We use a variety of guitar method books, and encourage students to learn their favorite tunes. Plus, teachers have an iPad in every studio to incorporate fun learning apps and sample video examples, etc.
Do I need to purchase a guitar to learn the instrument?
To learn in your lesson and to practice at home, you will need a guitar (for your convenience, students can use one of ours at their first lesson). We have a list of music stores you can purchase from, but the choice is yours. Most acoustic guitars start around $89.00.
Guitar Lab Classes
Two age groups offered:
7-11 year olds, 12-16 years old
These are introductory guitar classes for beginners with up to six students in each class. We focus on learning to tune the guitar, reading music, melody playing, chords and strumming, basic skills and techniques, and ensemble playing. Students use a songbook plus a music workbook. Since the classes are designed for students to progress at their own pace, the teacher helps each student individually for a portion of the class, and we also play together in ensemble (great for building listening skills and steady rhythm). Parent Performance Days are scheduled throughout the year, and the teacher will assess the student’s progress and recommend private guitar lessons at the appropriate time. Students bring their acoustic or electric guitar to class.
Guitar Lab Basic Class Activities:
• 55 Minute class
• 5 Minutes Parent Time
• Guitar Song Book
• Chord Book
• Ensemble Book
• Note Speller/Theory Book
• Technique, warm-ups, chords, strumming
• Individual learning and assignments at students level
• Workbook at the table (theory book, or guitar note speller)
• Review songs in books with accompaniment
• Jam, chart out pop songs, etc.
• Parent questions and assignment clarification
Lab classes will be ON-CAMPUS, IN-PERSON CLASSES ONLY!! Our Group Lab Classes do not have a virtual option for the 2021-22 school calendar year. Private lesson students will still have the option of virtual lessons. Students who would like a virtual option can join a private lesson series.
Also, our teachers have requested that students who register for the Judged and Graded School Events are attending on-campus (not virtual).
This is for: Theory Test (group music students through level 4, and all private music students)
Achievement Graduations (private students all levels)
PRIVATE GUITAR/BASS LESSONS
